The Texas Association of Builders has partnered with the Your Project Shepherd podcast to release a new episode examining the legal framework behind the 2025–2027 TAB Residential Construction Contracts Package, a set of documents widely used by homebuilders across Texas.

Released as Episode #131 of the podcast, the discussion focuses on how standardized contracts help builders manage risk, ensure legal compliance and maintain transparency with homeowners throughout residential construction projects.
The episode is hosted by Curtis Lawson of Shepherd Construction Advisors and Crafted Custom Homes.
The conversation also features a panel of industry leaders including Frances Blake, Adam Aschmann, and Donald Shelton.
During the podcast discussion, panelists explained that the TAB contract package has been refined over more than three decades and updated every two years to align with changes in Texas legislation.
The contracts are designed to clarify expectations for both builders and homeowners while also helping construction professionals remain compliant with evolving regulations.
“It is the only set of published contracts that we can find that [complies] with current law,” said Frances Blake.
According to panelists, clear contractual guidelines can significantly reduce disputes by defining project responsibilities, timelines and financial expectations at the beginning of a project.
The podcast also highlights how clear agreements play a major role in reducing legal conflicts and building trust between homeowners and construction professionals.
By establishing detailed terms and responsibilities upfront, the contracts create predictability for all parties involved in residential building projects.
“It really is certainty and predictability for both sides,” said Adam Aschmann. “Everybody knows what they're getting into, and that's what a lot of us are looking for as we go into these large relationships.”
Industry leaders noted that standardized contracts also contribute to housing affordability by helping minimize delays and legal disputes that can drive up construction costs.
The Texas Association of Builders has long played a key role in supporting the residential construction industry through advocacy, education and professional resources.
Founded in 1946, the organization operates as an affiliate of the National Association of Home Builders and represents a network of 27 local homebuilder associations across Texas.
TAB’s nearly 10,000 members collectively support more than 758,000 jobs and contribute over $71.5 billion annually to the Texas economy, according to the organization.
In addition to its contracts program, TAB provides training opportunities, policy advocacy and workforce development initiatives through the Texas Builders Foundation. These efforts aim to strengthen the residential construction workforce while promoting professional standards across the homebuilding sector.
The organization says resources like the Residential Construction Contracts Package are intended to help builders operate more efficiently while protecting both contractors and homeowners during complex construction projects.
