The expansion of Meta's data center campus in northeast Louisiana is creating one of the nation's largest AI infrastructure projects, generating significant construction activity and long-term employment opportunities. Turner Construction is continuing its role in delivering the campus as Meta increases the project's scale to meet growing artificial intelligence computing demand.

Expanded Campus Increases Construction Scope

Meta has expanded its Richland Parish campus from an originally planned 2 gigawatts of IT capacity to 5 gigawatts, increasing the development to nearly 10 million square feet. Once completed, the campus is expected to become Meta's largest data center and one of the world's largest AI-focused data center facilities.

The project represents more than $50 billion in investment and is projected to employ approximately 7,500 construction workers at peak activity. More than 1,000 permanent operations positions are also expected after the campus enters service.

Turner has already begun interior construction activities in the initial buildings while work continues across the broader campus.

Workforce and Community Investment

In addition to construction activities, Turner is supporting workforce development initiatives in Richland Parish through partnerships with local schools, workforce organizations, nonprofits, and community programs. These efforts are intended to strengthen the regional construction workforce while creating employment opportunities tied to the long-term development.

Construction activities are also aligned with Meta's sustainability and responsible resource management objectives throughout project delivery.

Why It Matters

For construction owners, contractors, and specialty trades, the Meta expansion underscores continued growth in the AI data center market. Projects of this scale generate sustained demand for skilled labor, subcontractors, building materials, electrical systems, mechanical infrastructure, and mission-critical construction expertise. As technology companies continue investing in AI infrastructure, large hyperscale developments remain a major source of construction activity across the United States.
