Turner Begins $150M Frayser High School Project to Transform Education

Construction is officially underway on the new $150 million Frayser Community High School in Memphis, a major investment in educational infrastructure designed to serve as a central hub for student achievement and community growth. Turner Construction Company, a national leader in building large-scale public and educational facilities, is spearheading the project.
The new school will span approximately 270,000 square feet and accommodate up to 1,500 students. The plan brings together students from MLK College Preparatory High School and Trezevant High School, combining their campuses into one advanced learning facility tailored for 21st-century education.

The design of the building emphasizes not only space and functionality but also innovation and adaptability. Students will have access to cutting-edge learning environments, including specialized career and technical education spaces, a fine arts and creative media center, STEM laboratories, broadcast production rooms, and modern graphic design classrooms. Additionally, state-of-the-art athletic facilities and Junior ROTC training areas are included to ensure a well-rounded educational experience.
“Frayser High School is more than a building—it’s a promise to the next generation,” said Andy Davis, Vice President and General Manager of Turner Construction Company. “We’re honored to be a part of this project and to work with the Frayser community to create a space where students can thrive, explore, and build their futures.”
The building is also being designed with the future in mind, incorporating features to ensure safety, durability, and flexibility that can adapt to new teaching strategies and technological shifts in years to come.
Construction will be carried out in two phases, allowing the district to manage logistics and minimize disruption to existing students and staff. The first phase focuses on the main academic building, while the second will include exterior athletic facilities and site improvements. The entire project is expected to be completed and operational in time for the 2027–2028 school year.
Local leaders and education advocates see the investment as a long-overdue win for the Frayser community, which has historically faced challenges with underfunded schools and outdated infrastructure. The new high school is not just a facility upgrade—it is a strategic part of efforts to raise academic standards, attract new families, and revitalize the broader area.
Once completed, the Frayser Community High School will be a beacon of academic opportunity and a symbol of long-term investment in the youth of Memphis.
