Turner Construction Commits to Building a More Inclusive Future

Turner Construction Company has signed the United States Department of Commerce's Million Women in Construction Community Pledge, reaffirming its commitment to increasing diversity within the industry. This aligns with the company's 2030 vision to reflect the diversity of its communities at all levels.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, women make up only 10.9% of construction workers in the United States. The Million Women in Construction initiative aims to double that number over the next decade. Turner has been actively working to address this disparity through various initiatives.

The company has partnered with organizations like Nontraditional Employment for Women (NEW) to provide training and job placement for women in the construction trades. Turner has also established partnerships with organizations that support diverse recruiting and professional development, such as the National Society for Black Engineers and the Society of Women Engineers.

Turner's own YouthForce program and participation in the ACE Mentor Program introduce students to the construction industry and foster a diverse and inclusive environment. Since 2017, these programs have reached over 41,000 students.

The company is also a founding member of AEC Unites and Construction Inclusion Week, initiatives dedicated to promoting equity and inclusion in the construction industry.

Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) play a crucial role in supporting an inclusive workplace. Turner has over 3,000 employees who are members of ERGs, including the Women's Network and the Mosaic Network.

"We believe in creating a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment where everyone can be their best," said Peter Davoren, President and CEO of Turner Construction Company. "Signing the Pledge reflects our commitment to reflecting the communities we serve at all levels of our company."

Turner's efforts have been recognized with awards from the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat and Forbes. The company has been named a Best Employer for Diversity by both Forbes and Newsweek.
