Turner Construction and Clemson University have reached a major project milestone with the opening of the Harvey S. Peeler Jr. College of Veterinary Medicine, South Carolina’s first veterinary school. The new campus welcomed its inaugural Doctor of Veterinary Medicine class for the fall 2026 semester.
The project delivers a seven-building veterinary education and research campus designed to support classroom instruction, clinical training, research and animal care. The Hub and Clinical Teaching Building are now in use, with additional facilities supporting ambulatory services, research, farm animal education, equine education and campus utilities.
The campus includes the Hub, Ambulatory Service Building, Clinical Teaching Building, Research Building, Central Utility Plant, Farm Animal Teaching Building and Equine Teaching Building. Together, the facilities provide specialized spaces for hands-on learning and clinical education.
The development is intended to expand veterinary education and clinical care capacity while helping address demand for veterinarians across South Carolina. Clemson's program is also designed to prepare graduates for work in underserved communities, including areas with agricultural and large-animal needs.
For the construction industry, the opening demonstrates the scale and complexity involved in delivering specialized higher education facilities that combine instructional, research, clinical and animal-care functions.
The project represents years of planning, coordination and construction involving Turner, Clemson and numerous trade partners. The completed facilities will support the university's first DVM program, with the inaugural class beginning studies in fall 2026.
The opening also adds a new specialized education facility to South Carolina's institutional infrastructure and creates capacity for future veterinary professionals, research activity and clinical services.
