Construction companies are facing continued pressure to strengthen workforce pipelines while delivering increasingly complex projects on schedule. Turner Construction Company’s receipt of two 2026 National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) awards highlights both workforce-development practices and execution on a major California renovation.
Turner received the NAWIC Impact Award for Corporate Leadership, which recognizes organizations that advance diversity, equity, inclusion and access across the architecture, engineering and construction industry.
Turner’s workforce initiatives include leadership development, mentorship, employee resource groups, workforce partnerships and employee benefits intended to support career progression. Turner also participates in industry efforts focused on expanding opportunities for underrepresented workers and businesses.
The company has supported initiatives including Construction Inclusion Week, AEC Unites and the Million Women in Construction Community Pledge. Its supplier and subcontractor efforts include procurement opportunities, mentorship, technical assistance and capacity-building programs for underrepresented businesses.
For construction owners and contractors, workforce access and development programs can affect the industry's ability to attract and retain workers across craft, management and leadership positions.
NAWIC also recognized Turner with a Project Excellence Award for the Resources Building Renovation in Sacramento.
The $490 million project involved the comprehensive renovation of a 17-story, 657,000-square-foot building. Work included seismic improvements, replacement of major building systems and installation of a new high-performance building envelope.
The project was delivered using a progressive design-build approach for the California Labor and Workforce Development Agency. Turner achieved the project's certificate of occupancy more than two months ahead of schedule.
The combination of structural upgrades, building-system replacement and façade work required coordination across multiple construction disciplines while transforming an existing high-rise facility.
The two awards illustrate two areas that directly affect construction delivery: workforce development and execution of complex renovation programs.
For owners, the Resources Building project also demonstrates the potential scheduling considerations involved in progressive design-build delivery for major public-sector renovations. For contractors, workforce initiatives and partnerships can support broader access to skilled and management talent while creating pathways into long-term construction careers.
