Two Construction Workers Critically Injured in Livingston County Electrocution

LIVINGSTON COUNTY, Mich. — A grave accident at a Genoa Township construction site has left two workers in critical condition after being electrocuted on the job, officials confirmed.

The Livingston County Sheriff’s Department reported that the incident took place at a commercial construction site on Latson Road, just south of Grand River Avenue. Workers were engaged in pouring concrete when the accident occurred.

“Employees were pouring concrete when the boom spreader from the concrete truck hit a primary power line, causing it to fall and electrocute two workers,” the Sheriff's Office said.

The impact of the boom spreader against the high-voltage line caused it to collapse, delivering a severe electrical shock to the workers nearby. Emergency responders arrived promptly and transported both men to a local hospital, where they remain in critical condition.

The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) has taken over the investigation of the incident, as required for workplace accidents of this nature. MIOSHA officials are expected to conduct a thorough review of safety measures at the site and ensure compliance with workplace safety regulations.

This incident has raised concerns about safety precautions when working near energized power lines, a known hazard in construction zones.

Local authorities have temporarily suspended operations at the site pending the outcome of the investigation. The construction company involved has yet to release an official statement on the incident.

Experts in construction safety emphasize the importance of stringent protocols, including clear markings of power line locations, worker training, and the use of spotters when operating heavy equipment near electrical hazards.

This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with construction work and the critical need for rigorous safety standards to protect workers on site.

The Livingston County Sheriff’s Department and MIOSHA continue to coordinate their efforts to determine the cause and prevent future accidents.
