Utah Mammoth’s New Home Bringing Pro Hockey and Community Together
SOUTH TOWN — Less than a year after Utah’s first NHL team arrived, the Mammoth’s permanent training and practice facility is on track to open this September — marking a major milestone for pro hockey in the Beehive State.
When the franchise launched in April 2024, the team quickly upgraded the Olympic Oval to serve as a temporary summer home. But just a few months later, the Mammoth staked its future on the Shops at South Town, acquiring the site for its long-term hub on August 1, 2024.

Since then, crews have worked through winter and spring, wrapping up the structural phase in April and pressing ahead with interior buildouts through the summer.
The 100,000-square-foot complex will house state-of-the-art locker rooms, training spaces, coaching offices, and dedicated community ice. With the doors set to open in time for the Mammoth’s fall training camp, the facility is poised to become Utah’s centerpiece for professional and youth hockey alike.
“This is the place where we’re going to inspire the next generation of kids in Utah to play the game of hockey,” said Chris Armstrong, President of Hockey Operations, when the team toured the facility’s skeleton this spring. “This is where we’re going to put down all of the habits and the identity of this team for the future as we pursue a Stanley Cup for Utah.”
Designed for the Community, Built for Champions
Backed by Smith Entertainment Group, the Mammoth’s new headquarters is more than just an NHL-grade training facility — it’s designed to open its doors to local players, families, and fans. Once the players’ spaces are complete, the next phase will build out rinks and gathering areas for Utah’s youth hockey leagues and community skating programs.

“Everything is about unity for us and bringing our state together and the people together,” Smith Entertainment Group co-founder Ashley Smith said during an early walkthrough. “I just imagine the small moments that are going to happen in this space … we get to watch and be a part of (this) and the community gets to be a part of it and that’s a beautiful thing.”
The project aligns with Smith Entertainment Group’s “Community Obsessed” principle, which has guided its investments in pro sports and entertainment across Utah.
Mammoth Fans Counting Down to First Puck Drop
The training hub is part of a broader vision to grow hockey’s footprint in the state. Since the team’s launch, Mammoth merchandise has become a familiar sight around Salt Lake City, and local youth leagues report record registrations.
The new complex aims to fuel that momentum, giving Utah’s next generation of players a front-row seat to their heroes and a place to develop their own skills.
As the countdown to opening day continues, fans can expect more updates on the South Town site, community programs, and how the Mammoth plan to make the Shops at South Town a year-round destination for hockey fans and families.
Stay tuned for more details as Utah’s NHL dream takes its next big step this September.
