The Weitz Company has received the Best General Contractor recognition in Des Moines for the 29th consecutive year, highlighting its longstanding presence in the Central Iowa construction market. The 2026 recognition comes as Weitz continues work on major transportation, healthcare and community projects throughout the region.
Weitz is participating in the construction of the new Des Moines International Airport terminal through a joint venture with Turner Construction. The approximately 360,000-square-foot terminal is being developed to modernize airport facilities and accommodate regional growth.
The company recently completed the Des Moines International Airport Parking Garage Expansion, adding more than 1,100 parking stalls and increasing the airport's parking capacity by 63%.
Weitz has also completed work for ChildServe, converting a former healthcare clinic into a 24,549-square-foot facility. The project consolidates medical childcare, autism services, therapy and other programs within a single location.
Founded in Des Moines in 1855, Weitz has operated in the region for more than 170 years. The company's Central Iowa work includes projects serving transportation, healthcare and other community needs.
The annual recognition is based on the Des Moines Business Record's Best of Des Moines awards. The 2026 award extends Weitz's consecutive run of recognition to 29 years.
Weitz's Des Moines operations work with owners, architects, engineers, trade partners and community stakeholders across project delivery. Its local portfolio includes both large-scale infrastructure and facilities designed for community services.
The recognition underscores Weitz's sustained presence in the Des Moines construction market while its project portfolio continues to span multiple sectors. For owners and project stakeholders, the company's ongoing involvement in airport and healthcare developments illustrates its participation in projects with significant regional and community infrastructure requirements.
