The Weitz Company has been named the Best General Contractor in Des Moines for the 29th consecutive year in the Des Moines Business Record’s 2026 Best of Des Moines awards. The recognition was announced September 18, with Weitz highlighting the honor in a September 22 announcement.
Founded in Des Moines in 1855, Weitz has worked on projects across Central Iowa for more than 170 years. Its current and recently completed work includes major aviation and healthcare projects supporting the region’s continued growth.
At Des Moines International Airport, Weitz is working with Turner Construction as part of a joint venture on a new approximately 360,000-square-foot terminal. The project is intended to modernize passenger facilities and support increased regional capacity.
Weitz also recently completed the airport’s parking garage expansion, adding more than 1,100 parking stalls and increasing parking capacity by 63%.
Beyond aviation infrastructure, Weitz recently transformed a former healthcare clinic into a 24,549-square-foot ChildServe facility. The completed space brings medical childcare, autism services, therapy and other programs together under one roof.
The 2026 Best of Des Moines program is based on voting by the Business Record’s audience across 72 categories. Weitz was listed as the winner in the Best General Contractor category, ahead of the listed runners-up Neumann Brothers and Hubbell Realty.
The recognition adds to Weitz’s long-running presence in the Central Iowa construction market while the company continues work across aviation, healthcare and other sectors. Its current portfolio includes projects tied to regional transportation capacity and community services.
