Construction on the future Westwood/UCLA Metro station is set to continue into early 2026, bringing intermittent traffic, pedestrian, and transit impacts to one of Los Angeles’ busiest corridors, according to Metro officials.

Crews are currently working at UCLA Lot 36, where construction of the Westwood/UCLA Station—a major stop on Metro’s expanding rail network—is actively progressing. The current phase of work includes utility removal, hauling operations, material deliveries, concrete pours, and backfilling of excavated areas. Metro said this phase is expected to continue through March 30, 2026.
To support construction access and staging, Metro contractors will implement periodic lane closures and traffic shifts in the surrounding area. Affected locations may include westbound Wilshire Boulevard between Westwood Boulevard and Veteran Avenue, crosswalks at Wilshire Boulevard and Gayley Avenue, southbound right-turn lanes at the Gayley Avenue and Wilshire Boulevard intersection, as well as portions of the Westwood and Wilshire boulevards intersection.
Construction activity is scheduled to take place on both weekdays and weekends. Work hours are set from 5:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with overnight operations running from 7:30 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Daytime hauling is anticipated between 6:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., which may contribute to increased congestion during peak travel times.
Metro officials said all construction activities have received the necessary permits and approvals. Pedestrian access will remain available outside of active work zones, and access for fire, police, and emergency responders will be maintained throughout construction. Temporary parking restrictions will also be enforced near the project site to ensure safety and maintain access.
Officials cautioned that schedules and traffic impacts may change due to weather, site conditions, or other construction-related factors. A 24-hour construction hotline has been established at 213-922-6934 for residents and commuters seeking information or wishing to report concerns.
Transit riders in the area may also encounter service adjustments, including temporary bus stop relocations or route changes. Updated transit information is available by calling 323-GO-METRO or by visiting metro.net/triplanner.
Metro Construction Relations staff noted they will coordinate with the appropriate Los Angeles City Council district if individuals experiencing homelessness are identified on city property near the construction zone. Residents seeking outreach or social services assistance can contact 2-1-1, call 211LA at (800) 399-6993, or submit a request through LAHSA’s LA HOP outreach portal.
