Construction Worker Hospitalized After Serious Injury at TSMC Arizona Facility
A construction worker suffered serious injuries at the site of TSMC’s semiconductor fabrication plant in Arizona, marking the latest safety-related incident at the high-profile chip manufacturing project.
Emergency crews responded to the scene around 1:30 p.m. on Monday, June 30. The unidentified male worker was transported to the hospital in “serious condition,” according to local reports. The extent of the injuries includes broken bones, but officials have not disclosed further details about the cause of the accident.

TSMC confirmed the incident in a statement, saying:
“This afternoon, an Arizona site construction worker was in an accident and suffered broken bones. This person was treated on scene and promptly transported to the hospital for further treatment. We wish the injured worker a full and fast recovery. TSMC’s top priority is the safety and welfare of everyone who works on our site. We are in contact with our construction contractors and looking into this situation.”
The accident comes just over a year after a tragic fatality at the same site. In June 2024, 41-year-old Cesar Anguiano-Guitron died when an over-pressurized container of sulfuric acid exploded, striking him with a blunt object and propelling him from the vehicle he was in.
Following that incident, the Arizona Division of Occupational Safety and Health (ADOSH) fined TSMC $16,131 for failing to maintain a hazard-free workplace. The agency also cited the company for several other risks, including exposure to harmful substances and dangers from falling debris.
Repeated Safety Concerns at a High-Profile Project
The TSMC Arizona fab has been touted as a cornerstone of the U.S.'s push to revitalize domestic chip production, but repeated safety incidents raise questions about conditions on the job site. As construction ramps up on advanced chipmaking facilities, experts warn that worker protections must keep pace with technical demands.
Union and Labor Watchdog Response
Worker safety advocates and unions have voiced concerns about the pace and complexity of large-scale semiconductor construction projects. In light of the latest injury, there may be renewed calls for third-party oversight and stricter enforcement of safety protocols.
Impact on Project Timeline
While no delays have been announced, frequent safety issues could put pressure on project deadlines and public perception. The Biden administration has heavily backed semiconductor investment through the CHIPS Act, and TSMC’s Arizona project has received both federal support and national attention.
Worker Safety in Focus Nationwide
This incident is part of a broader national conversation about worker safety in major industrial projects, especially those tied to clean tech and semiconductor manufacturing. Federal agencies like OSHA and ADOSH may increase scrutiny on sites receiving government-backed funding.
