WSVN Breaks Ground on New Miramar HQ

Construction is officially underway on WSVN’s next-generation broadcast headquarters in Miramar, as Sunbeam Television marked a major milestone with the ceremonial lifting of the first wall. The tilt-up event, held Friday morning on an eight-acre site in the Miramar Park of Commerce near Red Road and Miramar Parkway, signifies the start of what will become one of South Florida’s most advanced news facilities.

The date held special significance for the Ansin family, who have operated WSVN for decades.
We picked this day because it was December 5, 1962 when Sid Ansin purchased Channel 7,” said Sunbeam Television CEO Andrew Ansin.

The groundbreaking represents more than a construction milestone — it marks the future home of both WSVN Channel 7 and ABC Miami Channel 18, which began simulcasting earlier this year under a new agreement with ABC. The new facility is designed not only to modernize operations, but also to strengthen local news delivery to audiences across South Florida.

Andrew Ansin emphasized the long-term vision behind the project.
It’s super exciting. We’re here in Miramar, terrific location, great access to the highways. We’re building a building that’s extremely strong,” he said. “It’ll be able to withstand Category 5 hurricanes. We have to stay on air with people in the building during storms, is very important.

Sunbeam Television executives, construction partners, community leaders, and local officials all attended the tilt-up ceremony, underscoring how transformative the project will be for the region.

We’re so excited to share this groundbreaking event with our neighbors at Miramar, the dignitaries, our businesses, and we’re thrilled to be able to have Channel 7 and Channel 18 under one state-of-the-art modern facility,” said Co-President and General Manager James Ansin.

[We are here] to commemorate this day with a tilt-up wall and begin the foundation of the TV station here. It’s going to be amazing,” added Co-President and General Manager Paul Magnes.

Miramar Mayor Wayne Messam described the project as a major benchmark in the city’s ongoing development.
It won’t just be for Miramar, it will be for all of South Florida to enjoy, so, to have this as one of the catalyst projects to show the progress and transformation of the City of Miramar,” he said.

Construction partner Miller Construction Company has helped shepherd the project through years of preparation.
We’re very excited, we’ve been working on this for three years and to see it come out of the ground, it’s an exciting day,” said Traci Miller.

For the Ansin family, the moment also reflects decades of partnership with the community.
It’s all been a terrific collaboration between our family and the City of Miramar for the past 60 years,” Andrew said. “It’s going to help us amplify the message to support the nonprofits in town. It’s one of the great things in becoming the ABC affiliate, now we have two conduits, Channel 7 and 18 to push that message out.

The new headquarters will feature hurricane-resistant construction, modern broadcast studios, expanded newsroom capacity, and technology-forward infrastructure designed to support 24/7 live coverage during emergencies — a critical service in a region vulnerable to major storms.

Construction is expected to take 18 to 24 months, which would put the opening sometime between mid-2027 and early 2028.
