Adolfson & Peterson Construction (AP) has announced a planned leadership transition that will elevate longtime executive Brad Hendrickson to chief executive officer on June 1, 2026, as current CEO Jeff Hansen retires after nearly a decade at the helm.
The Minneapolis-based contractor said the move reflects years of structured succession planning aimed at preserving the company’s culture and momentum. Hendrickson currently serves as chief operating officer and will continue in that role through the transition period.

“Succession planning has been a priority for the Board for many years, and this transition reflects that disciplined, forward-looking approach,” said Brantley Barrow, Chair of the Board. “Jeff has built a strong organization with an exceptional leadership team, and Brad is exactly the right leader to guide AP into its next chapter.”
Growth Under Hansen Sets the Stage
Under Hansen’s leadership, the organization expanded its market presence, achieved significant growth milestones, and deepened long-standing client relationships, positioning AP for sustained growth while remaining grounded in its core values.
“My goal has always been to ensure AP would be led by someone who understands our people, our clients, and our culture—and who is already helping shape our strategy,” said Hansen. “Brad is that leader, and I have complete confidence in his ability to lead this organization in its continued success.”
Hendrickson brings more than three decades of construction industry experience to the role. During his tenure as COO, he has overseen geographic expansion, record revenue performance and improvements in safety, quality and profitability.
“I’m honored to step into this role and grateful for the trust placed in me by the Board and by Jeff,” said Brad Hendrickson. “AP’s success is built on the strength of our relationships. As we look ahead, I am confident in our teams’ ability to execute our strategy and deliver outstanding work for our clients.”
Strong Financial Momentum Heading Into 2026
The leadership change comes as AP closes a robust fiscal year at the end of February. The company expects total revenue to exceed $1.5 billion, with 87% of next year’s backlog already secured. Workforce levels grew 25% over the past year, a notable expansion at a time when many contractors continue to face labor constraints.
“This is an exciting time at AP,” Barrow added. “We’re grateful for Jeff and confident in the future under Brad’s leadership as AP continues to build on its strong foundation.”
The transition marks one of the most significant leadership changes in AP’s 80-year history, yet the company emphasized continuity rather than disruption. Hendrickson has been deeply involved in shaping AP’s strategic direction, particularly in diversifying market sectors such as mission-critical facilities, healthcare and multifamily construction.
Industry analysts note that privately held contractors often struggle with generational leadership changes, but AP’s multiyear preparation appears designed to avoid those pitfalls. The firm has steadily climbed the ENR Top 100 Contractors list while maintaining family ownership and a decentralized regional operating model.
AP’s expanding backlog suggests continued investment in public and private construction markets across the Southwest, Mountain West and Upper Midwest. The company has recently increased its focus on technology integration, prefabrication and workforce development initiatives aimed at improving productivity amid nationwide labor shortages.
Hendrickson is expected to prioritize those initiatives while preserving the relationship-driven approach that has defined AP’s brand. Company officials said Hansen will remain available in an advisory capacity following his retirement to ensure a smooth handoff with clients and trade partners.
