BuildOps Names Dzmitry Markovich CTO to Accelerate AI Expansion in Commercial Trades

LOS ANGELES — BuildOps, an AI-native platform serving commercial contractors, has appointed Dzmitry Markovich as its new chief technology officer, the company announced May 5. The move comes as the firm scales its artificial intelligence capabilities and positions itself for its next phase of growth across North America’s commercial trades sector.

Markovich joins BuildOps from Apollo.io, where he served as senior vice president of engineering, helping guide one of the fastest-growing B2B SaaS companies. Prior to that, he spent seven years at Dropbox, rising to vice president of engineering and leading teams through the company’s hypergrowth and 2018 initial public offering.

Leadership Move Supports AI Platform Expansion

The appointment aligns with BuildOps’ expansion of OpsAI, the intelligence layer embedded across its platform that predicts, recommends and executes workflows for contractors. With more than 1,500 contractors using the platform, the company said it is experiencing its strongest customer momentum to date.

“Dzmitry is one of the top CTOs in the country, and we are proud to have him on our team,” said Alok Chanani, co-founder and CEO of BuildOps. “He has built and scaled engineering organizations through exactly the kinds of transitions we are navigating now: hypergrowth, AI-platform maturity, and enterprise-grade reliability. The trades have been waiting for technology this serious.”

In his new role, Markovich will oversee engineering, infrastructure, platform development, data and security. He will work closely with Chief Product Officer Will Lehrmann to enhance system performance and expand autonomous capabilities across the platform.

The company’s technology strategy centers on shifting from traditional job tracking software to systems that actively anticipate and execute next steps in construction workflows. This approach reflects a broader industry trend toward automation and AI integration in project management and field operations.

Industry Veteran Brings Enterprise-Scale Experience

Markovich is already familiar with BuildOps, having served on its advisory board since 2023. His background includes engineering roles at Microsoft and LinkedIn, as well as leadership experience at Dapper Labs, a Web3 platform known for NBA Top Shot.

At Dropbox, he led major infrastructure components, including storage, services, data systems and physical engineering operations. At Apollo.io, he helped advance the company’s engineering maturity and AI capabilities.

“BuildOps has already built the product the commercial trades have been missing and is pushing the whole critical sector to a new world,” said Markovich. “What excites me is what comes next: turning that foundation into technology that works ahead of contractors, not alongside them. The chance to define what AI looks like in an industry this large, this complex, this critical at this time for US and beyond and this under-served is rare.”

The executive appointment is part of a broader effort by BuildOps to strengthen its leadership team. Markovich joins a roster that includes Lehrmann, a longtime Procore executive; Chief Revenue Officer Greg Gillis, formerly of Coupa Software; and Chief Marketing Officer Colin Piper, previously with Autodesk’s construction technology division.

BuildOps has raised more than $225 million in funding to date, including a $127 million Series C round that valued the company at $1 billion. Its platform supports a wide range of commercial specialty contractors, including those in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire protection and refrigeration.

As construction firms increasingly adopt digital tools to improve efficiency and manage labor constraints, BuildOps is betting that AI-driven automation will play a central role in the industry’s evolution.
