Vantage Data Centers has confirmed full funding for its latest large-scale development in Virginia—a $2 billion data campus in Stafford County that further strengthens the state’s dominance in global digital infrastructure. The new campus, known as VA4, marks the company’s newest expansion in Northern Virginia, already the world’s most concentrated hub of data processing and cloud activity.

A Major Step in Virginia’s Data Center Boom

The VA4 project will encompass three purpose-built data centers across 82 acres and deliver 929,000 sq ft of new capacity. Located near Vantage’s existing Northern Virginia campuses, the site positions the company to meet soaring demand tied to AI training, hyperscale cloud platforms, and enterprise computing.

Once completed, the VA4 campus will push Virginia’s total data center capacity to 782MW, representing an estimated $8 billion in cumulative economic value. The state continues to attract cloud and AI operators due to its stable energy supply, connectivity infrastructure, and business-friendly regulatory environment.

A Sustainability-Driven Design

Vantage says the new campus will be engineered to meet LEED certification requirements and will operate using a closed-loop chilled water system—a cooling approach that recycles water and supports high-density AI workloads with improved efficiency. The design reflects Virginia’s push to ensure future data infrastructure is both scalable and environmentally responsible.

State Leaders Highlight AI Opportunity

Virginia officials are championing the project as a crucial investment in the state’s economic future.
Juan Pablo Segura, Virginia’s secretary of commerce and trade, emphasized the role of AI in shaping the state’s next decade of growth:
As AI promises to transform the way we live and work, data centre development like Vantage’s VA4 campus are placing Virginia at the centre of it all.
By moving at the speed of business, we are ensuring that these centres can begin serving communities and providing vital revenue for many years to come.

The VA4 campus is scheduled to begin operations in 2027 and is expected to create 50 new, highly skilled jobs focused on data center operations, IT systems, facility engineering, and advanced digital infrastructure management.

A Global Operator Continues Its Expansion

Founded in 2010 with its first data center in California, Vantage Data Centers has grown into a major global platform. The company now operates 30 campuses across five countries, with recent expansions driven by surging AI model demand and increased cloud adoption across industries.

The Virginia project is among Vantage’s most ambitious, reflecting a broader industry trend: data center operators racing to build capacity fast enough to support exponential growth in AI model training, real-time inference, and the high-performance computing workloads now driving the digital economy.

Why Virginia Continues to Lead

Industry analysts point to several reasons Virginia remains the premier location for hyperscale campuses:

  • Unmatched fiber density and connectivity to major internet exchanges
  • Reliable, relatively affordable power suitable for high-demand workloads
  • Predictable permitting processes that support multi-billion-dollar construction timelines
  • Strong state incentives for digital infrastructure and job creation

With its latest investment, Vantage is solidifying not just its own footprint but the region’s continued reputation as the beating heart of global data processing.
