Construction companies are increasingly directing community investment toward programs that address workforce development, education and other local needs. Saunders Construction has established a new Colorado grant program that will provide financial support to a nonprofit organization serving communities where Saunders has operations or project activity.
The Richard C. Saunders Annual Community Grant Program was created in recognition of Saunders founder Richard “Dick” Saunders and will provide as much as $10,000 to one qualifying nonprofit during its first grant cycle.
The program will support Colorado-based 501(c)(3) organizations working in three primary areas: youth education and development, mental health, and arts and creative expression.
Eligible education-related initiatives can include early childhood programs, K-12 education, post-secondary preparation, workforce development, career exploration, mentoring, STEM education, literacy and leadership development.
Mental health funding can be used for services, prevention and early intervention programs, wellness initiatives and efforts to improve access to care for young people and families.
Arts-related organizations may seek funding for arts education, creative programs and community-focused initiatives.
Applicants must be registered Colorado 501(c)(3) organizations in good standing and serve communities where Saunders Construction has a presence or impact. Organizations must also demonstrate financial and organizational stability and provide documentation related to their finances and governance.
The application process opened Aug. 17, 2026, with submissions due Oct. 30. Saunders Construction plans to review applications during November, with its executive team expected to select the recipient in December. The grant recipient is scheduled to be announced in January 2027, with funding planned for February.
Applicants must provide organizational information, a description of the proposed program or project, the community need being addressed, expected outcomes and budget details. Required supplemental materials include an IRS determination letter, a recent financial statement or Form 990, a board list and a conflict-of-interest acknowledgment.
Saunders Construction will evaluate applications based on factors including alignment with the program's priorities, community impact, organizational capacity, financial responsibility, sustainability and the strength of proposed outcomes.
The initiative adds a direct funding component to Saunders Construction's broader community involvement across Colorado. The grant structure allows nonprofit organizations to seek support for program delivery, development or general operating needs rather than limiting funding to construction-related activities.
For construction owners and contractors, the program also illustrates how community investment can extend beyond individual project sites through targeted support for organizations addressing education, workforce preparation, health and cultural programs.
