2nd Street Pike Construction Underway in Northampton

NORTHAMPTON TOWNSHIP, PA — Construction on Route 232 (2nd Street Pike) continues this week as part of a local safety improvement initiative. The project focuses on lane striping, updated signage, and other enhancements to improve driver and pedestrian safety along the heavily traveled corridor.

A weekly lane closure with flagging is scheduled between Tanyard Road and Upper Holland Road, beginning Wednesday, Oct. 1, and continuing through Friday, Oct. 31. Work hours will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.

“Motorists should allow extra travel time when passing through the work zone,” said a Northampton Township spokesperson. “Delays are expected, and all activities are subject to weather conditions.”

The project is part of a broader township initiative to modernize roadways and reduce accident risks on high-traffic streets. Improvements include enhanced lane markings, reflective striping, and upgraded directional signage to guide drivers more effectively.

Local authorities emphasized the importance of patience and safe driving in the construction zone. “Please follow all flagging instructions and posted signage,” the spokesperson added. “These measures ensure the safety of our crews and the public.”

Residents and commuters are encouraged to plan alternative routes where possible, especially during morning and afternoon peak hours. Updates on progress and lane closures will be posted on the Northampton Township Public Works website and social media channels.

Project benefits extend beyond improved safety. Officials note that the upgrades will enhance traffic flow, reduce roadway wear over time, and contribute to a more efficient and secure transportation network for both local and through traffic.
