$800M Overhaul Set for Carolina Panthers Stadium

Construction Owners Editorial Team

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A major modernization effort is coming to Bank of America Stadium as Clark Construction and D.A. Everett Construction team up to deliver an $800 million renovation for the home of the NFL’s Carolina Panthers.

Tepper Sports & Entertainment confirmed the joint venture, marking one of the most significant renovation investments in the franchise’s history. Early construction activity begins in 2026, with completion expected in 2030 — ensuring the Panthers remain competitive not only on the field but in providing a modern fan experience.

Revamping a Regional Icon

Alongside updating the 30-year-old stadium, the project includes a brand-new indoor field house, to be built on the club’s 9-acre practice field — giving players upgraded training capabilities close to the venue.

The project delivery is split across multiple firms to prioritize local participation:

With Charlotte-based D.A. Everett and R.J. Leeper being minority-owned, the effort directly supports the city’s inclusion priorities.

Multi-Year Upgrade Plan

Renovation phases include:

1. 2026 kickoff: Mechanical, electrical, plumbing & HVAC system improvements
2. New AV infrastructure + cutting-edge video boards
3. Full replacement of all seating
4. Expanded concessions and redesigned concourses
5. Group experience zone in the upper bowl
6. Exterior viewing plazas for public gatherings

The stadium — which also hosts MLS club Charlotte FC — will remain operational throughout construction.

CAA Icon will serve as project manager and owner’s representative.
HOK, which originally designed the stadium in the 1990s, returns as architect — reinforcing continuity with an updated vision.

How It’s Being Paid For

Tourism taxes will fund 80% of the project.
The Charlotte City Council:

  • Approved the renovation plan in June 2024
  • Approved $650M in project financing last week

The city also set participation targets:

  • 15% minority-owned business involvement
  • 12% women-owned business participation

Local leaders say the investment is designed to keep Charlotte competitive in attracting major sports and entertainment events — while avoiding relocation pressure faced by other aging NFL venues.

Why the Renovation Matters

Bank of America Stadium has hosted:

  • NFL + MLS seasons
  • Major college football events
  • Concerts with national tours
  • International soccer matches

A refreshed venue strengthens Charlotte’s status as a Southeast sports destination while supporting thousands of construction jobs across a four-year build.
