The acquisition reflects continued investment in the U.S. infrastructure market as international contractors expand their regional construction capabilities through strategic partnerships. ACCIONA has entered into an agreement to acquire an 80% stake in Vertical Earth, positioning the company to broaden its transportation and civil construction operations across the Southeast.
Under the agreement, ACCIONA will become the majority owner of Vertical Earth, an infrastructure contractor founded in 1997 with operations in Georgia and Florida. The company specializes in transportation, heavy civil construction, and structural projects and reported approximately $217 million in revenue during 2025.
The transaction is subject to customary regulatory approvals and is expected to be completed before the end of the year. Following closing, Brett Johnson will continue serving as chief executive while maintaining a 20% ownership interest.
ACCIONA said the acquisition will enhance its ability to self-perform construction work while strengthening access to regional suppliers, skilled labor, and local market expertise.
Atlanta will serve as the strategic center for ACCIONA's Infrastructure division in the United States following the acquisition.
The company has expanded its U.S. project portfolio in recent years with transportation, water, and public-private partnership projects. Current work includes Georgia's SR-400 express lanes project, the Calcasieu River Bridge replacement in Louisiana, the Fargo-Moorhead flood diversion project in North Dakota, and multiple water infrastructure projects across California, Florida, and Puerto Rico.
The acquisition aligns with ACCIONA's broader strategy to increase its presence in the U.S. infrastructure sector, where public investment and long-term transportation programs continue to generate contracting opportunities.
Acquisitions remain a key growth strategy for global contractors seeking to strengthen regional operations and execution capabilities in the U.S. construction market. For project owners and public agencies, combining local contractor expertise with international infrastructure experience can increase delivery capacity for large transportation, civil, and public-private partnership projects across growing regional markets.
