Major transportation investments continue to reshape Australia's infrastructure network as governments expand rail capacity to accommodate population growth and future mobility needs. AECOM has been selected, alongside joint venture partner Bureau Veritas, to serve as Independent Certifier for Stage 1 of The Wave rail project in Queensland.
The appointment places the joint venture in an oversight role responsible for independently certifying that the project's design and construction comply with established safety, operational, and regulatory requirements throughout delivery.
The Wave Stage 1 includes construction of a new dual-track passenger rail corridor linking Beerwah and Caloundra on Queensland's Sunshine Coast.
The project also includes new and upgraded rail stations intended to improve access across the corridor. The independent certification assignment is expected to continue for approximately six years as design and construction progress.
The rail investment forms part of Queensland's broader transportation improvements planned in advance of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
As Independent Certifier, the AECOM and Bureau Veritas joint venture will assess project delivery against contractual, operational, safety, and regulatory standards during both the design and construction phases.
AECOM has previously provided independent assurance services on major Australian transportation projects, including Melbourne Metro Tunnel, Sydney Metro Brownfields, and the M1 Pacific Motorway extension.
Independent certification plays an important role in large transportation programs by providing project owners and public agencies with additional oversight throughout delivery. For construction owners, contractors, and infrastructure stakeholders, third-party assurance helps support compliance, quality management, and operational readiness on complex rail projects while strengthening confidence in long-term public infrastructure investments.
