AGC California, Sacramento Asian Pacific Chamber Partner to Support Small Builders

SACRAMENTO, CALIF. — The Associated General Contractors of California (AGC of California) and its affiliate, the AGC Construction Education Foundation (AGC CEF), have formed a new partnership with the Sacramento Asian Pacific Chamber of Commerce and its Regional Small Business Utilization Center (RSBUC). This collaboration aims to bolster support for small, diverse, and underrepresented construction firms throughout the greater Sacramento area, including Sacramento, Yolo, and Placer Counties.

This partnership will provide these small businesses with resources specifically tailored to the unique challenges faced in the construction industry. Services include focused education and training programs, mentorship, technical assistance, and access to networking and matchmaking opportunities with AGC member general contractors. Ongoing business development support is also a key element of the initiative, designed to help these firms grow sustainably.

“This partnership reflects our shared commitment to creating more inclusive and equitable economic opportunities within the construction industry,” said Erin Volk, executive director of AGC CEF and senior vice-president, workforce and community development at AGC of California. “Together with the Sacramento Asian Pacific Chamber and RSBUC, we are equipping small and underrepresented businesses with the tools, knowledge, and connections they need to succeed.”

The initiative is partially funded by a grant from the California Office of the Small Business Advocate, which also includes a $100,000 subgrant awarded by RSBUC to the AGC Construction Education Foundation. This funding will help facilitate specialized workshops, one-on-one coaching, and events designed to increase the visibility and competitiveness of these small businesses in the construction marketplace.

Leaders from the Sacramento Asian Pacific Chamber emphasized the importance of the partnership in leveling the playing field for minority and women-owned construction businesses. “Our collaboration with AGC brings critical industry insight and resources to small businesses that have historically faced barriers to entry,” said a Chamber spokesperson. “By joining forces, we are building a stronger, more diverse construction community that reflects the region’s rich cultural fabric.”

The program will also offer access to bid opportunities and connections with large contractors seeking to subcontract with smaller firms. This matchmaking component aims to create real economic opportunities and foster long-term business relationships.

AGC of California and its partners plan to roll out the first training sessions and matchmaking events later this year, with the goal of driving measurable growth for participating firms.
