HOMER GLEN, IL — Road construction along Bell Road in Homer Glen continues to advance, with Village officials confirming that crews remain on track for substantial completion by the end of November. The work spans the busy corridor between 159th and 151st streets and is part of a multi-year effort to expand roadway capacity and improve traffic flow.
The project has faced some delays due to unexpected utility relocations, which slowed progress earlier this summer. With those challenges resolved, construction crews have now re-mobilized and are back on site. Drill crews are working steadily, and according to the Village, “noise wall foundations are anticipated to be completed within the coming week. Then, Earthwork and subgrade preparation will follow.”
Noise walls are a key feature of the project, designed to reduce sound levels for nearby neighborhoods and enhance quality of life for residents living close to Bell Road. Once foundations are set, crews will begin building the walls alongside roadway upgrades and resurfacing.
In addition, the major intersection at 143rd Street and Bell Road is undergoing its own extensive reconstruction. That work, which includes upgraded traffic signals, new turning lanes, and safety enhancements, is projected to continue through November 2027. Village officials say the improvements are critical for handling long-term population growth and increased commuter traffic in Homer Glen and the surrounding southwest suburbs.
Traffic management remains an important part of the project. The stage one traffic shift, initially delayed, is now expected to take place in early October. Once implemented, traffic will be redirected to the east side of Bell Road and the south side of 143rd Street. Lanes will be reduced to a single lane of travel in each direction during this phase, and drivers are urged to plan for slower travel times.

Despite the inconvenience, Village officials have highlighted the broader benefits of the construction. The upgrades are expected to relieve congestion, improve safety for both drivers and pedestrians, and modernize Homer Glen’s infrastructure to meet future needs. Local businesses along the corridor are also being encouraged to communicate with customers about alternate routes and access points during the construction phases.
When completed, the Bell Road project will connect more efficiently with surrounding arterial roads, reducing bottlenecks and creating a smoother traffic flow through the growing community.
“This is a long-term investment in our transportation network,” officials emphasized. “While the construction brings short-term challenges, it will ultimately deliver safer, faster, and more reliable travel for our residents.”
