Central Texas continues to attract investment across power, transportation, water, manufacturing and mission-critical infrastructure, increasing demand for multidisciplinary project delivery. Burns & McDonnell has appointed Travis Alexander to lead its Austin office as the engineering and construction firm expands its presence in the region.
Alexander will oversee the Austin branch and support clients through engineering, architecture, construction and consulting services. He succeeds Jake Merriman, who was recently named general manager of Burns & McDonnell's Transmission & Distribution Group.
Alexander has more than 20 years of experience in infrastructure project delivery, including almost 16 years with Burns & McDonnell. He most recently served as department manager for the firm's OnSite Energy & Power group in Fort Worth.
In that position, Alexander led teams working on behind-the-meter power systems, campus utility infrastructure, district energy and resilient power projects. His project experience spans higher education, health care, aviation and other institutional facilities.
His technical background also includes central utility plants, combined heat and power systems, thermal distribution, energy planning and campus infrastructure modernization. Alexander is a licensed Professional Engineer in Texas and Alabama.
The Austin branch supports projects across energy, aviation, manufacturing, environmental services, water, transportation and mission-critical facilities.
Alexander previously worked in Austin before relocating to Fort Worth and earned his engineering degree from the University of Texas. His return to the Austin leadership role comes as Burns & McDonnell continues expanding its Central Texas operations.
The leadership change follows the firm's broader management transition announced Aug. 18, including Merriman's move to oversee its Transmission & Distribution Group.
Burns & McDonnell's Austin operation is positioned across several sectors requiring continued investment in utility systems, transportation infrastructure, water resources, energy facilities and mission-critical projects.
For owners and developers, the appointment places an experienced infrastructure and power specialist at the head of a regional office serving multiple project types. Burns & McDonnell operates from more than 75 offices worldwide and is a 100% employee-owned firm.
