Camp Colton is moving steadily forward with a series of long-planned construction projects designed to support the camp’s expanding educational and outdoor programming.
At the conclusion of its second construction season, camp leaders report that most major infrastructure improvements are now complete, while work on a new lodge structure continues. The current schedule calls for construction to be finished sometime in 2026, allowing the new facilities to open for the following camp season, pending final approval from the state fire marshal.

The first phase of construction includes the development of a new lodge, a redesigned entry area, and a welcome ramada, along with extensive behind-the-scenes upgrades. These improvements include new water and septic systems, upgraded road access, and the installation of photovoltaic systems to support renewable energy use at the site.
Camp officials say the infrastructure work has laid the foundation for modernizing a facility that has seen limited major upgrades since the original lodge was built in the 1960s. The improvements are intended to increase functionality, safety, and capacity for visiting students and program participants.

Construction photos show the new lodge taking shape among the ponderosa pines at Hart Prairie. The building features a covered porch facing south, a design choice that maximizes solar exposure for rooftop panels. Once complete, the lodge is expected to significantly expand indoor gathering and instructional space for the camp’s growing programs.
Nearby, older structures—including the existing lodge and seasonal cabins—remain on site as construction progresses. Cabins have been stripped of canvas for the winter and are expected to be prepared for use again during the 2026 season.
While much of the core infrastructure work is finished, additional construction and inspections remain before the site can be fully operational. Camp leaders anticipate completing the project next year, with final occupancy dependent on regulatory approvals.
Once complete, the improvements are expected to enhance Camp Colton’s ability to host educational programming, outdoor learning experiences, and overnight stays, ensuring the facility can meet demand for years to come.
