Centrus Selects Geiger Brothers for Multi-Billion-Dollar Uranium Enrichment Expansion

BETHESDA, Md. — Centrus Energy Corp. has selected Geiger Brothers, Inc. as the construction contractor for its multi-billion-dollar uranium enrichment expansion project in Piketon, marking a key milestone in efforts to scale domestic nuclear fuel production.

The project aims to significantly expand Centrus’ uranium enrichment capacity by deploying thousands of advanced centrifuges to produce Low-Enriched Uranium (LEU) and High-Assay, Low-Enriched Uranium (HALEU), both critical for commercial nuclear energy and U.S. national security applications.

Partnership Structure Aims to Improve Efficiency and Reduce Costs

Under the project structure, Fluor Corporation will serve as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor, overseeing design, project management and supply chain operations. Geiger Brothers will handle on-site construction activities, creating a dual-layer execution model intended to improve efficiency and control costs.

“Geiger Brothers brings more than a century of experience and a strong Ohio workforce to our project,” said Amir Vexler, president and CEO of Centrus. “Their deep expertise in complex industrial construction, including work across the energy and nuclear sectors, makes them an ideal partner as we scale up production capacity. This partnership is another example of our commitment to bring in lead times and reduce unit costs for our project. With Fluor's global EPC leadership and Geiger's local capabilities, we are assembling a best–in–class team to deliver this expansion safely, efficiently, and on schedule.”

Geiger Brothers, founded in 1909 and headquartered in Jackson, Ohio, brings more than a century of experience across industrial, infrastructure and nuclear construction sectors. The company has previously worked with Centrus on earlier uranium enrichment demonstration projects, including a HALEU cascade and a prior LEU system completed in 2013.

Expansion Supports U.S. Nuclear Fuel Supply Chain

Centrus’ expansion project at the American Centrifuge Plant is expected to restore large-scale domestic uranium enrichment capabilities using U.S.-developed technology. The effort includes installation of AC100M centrifuges and coordination with manufacturing operations in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, where centrifuge production began in December 2025.

The expanded facility is expected to support Centrus’ $2.3 billion commercial LEU backlog and produce at least 12 metric tons per year of HALEU, a fuel type increasingly needed for next-generation nuclear reactors.

“We are proud to support this historic investment in America's nuclear fuel supply chain,” said Erik Massie, president and chief financial officer of Geiger Brothers. “Our roots are in Ohio, and we look forward to contributing to a project that strengthens U.S. energy security, creates local jobs, and bolsters domestic manufacturing.”

Centrus said the collaboration with Fluor and Geiger Brothers reflects a broader strategy to assemble a network of experienced partners capable of delivering large-scale, technically complex energy infrastructure projects.

The expansion comes amid growing demand for carbon-free energy and renewed focus on domestic nuclear fuel production as part of national energy security efforts.
