The Cincinnati Business Courier has released its annual ranking of the region’s largest general contractors, highlighting the firms that generated the highest local construction billings in 2024.

The 2025 list features contractors headquartered across a broad tri-state footprint, including counties in southwest Ohio, northern Kentucky and southeast Indiana. Together, these firms represent the core builders driving major commercial, institutional and infrastructure projects throughout Greater Cincinnati.
Turner Construction Co. once again topped the ranking, reporting $823.2 million in local billings and employing 170 workers in the region. Messer Construction Co. followed in second place with $422.75 million in billings and a local workforce of 630 employees, making it one of the area’s largest employers in the construction sector.
Miller Valentine Construction secured third place with $290 million in local billings, while Skanska ranked fourth at $228.5 million. The Huseman Group — formerly known as HGC Construction — rounded out the top five with $222 million in local revenue.
The ranking is based on 2024 local billings and includes data gathered through Cincinnati Business Courier research as well as information supplied directly by participating firms. Companies that did not respond to employment surveys were still included using estimated figures derived from public records, prior Courier reporting and U.S. Department of Labor filings.

This year’s ranking reflects a broader shift in research methodology across American City Business Journals’ publications, emphasizing deeper data analysis and added context for readers. The updated approach is designed to uncover thousands of new local business records annually and improve consistency across ACBJ’s national footprint.
The general contractors on the list are drawn from offices located in Ohio counties such as Hamilton, Butler and Clermont; Kentucky counties including Boone, Kenton and Campbell; and Indiana counties such as Franklin and Dearborn. Their geographic reach underscores Cincinnati’s role as a regional construction hub, with firms frequently managing projects that cross state lines.
The continued dominance of large national firms like Turner Construction and Skanska, alongside long-established regional players such as Messer and Miller Valentine, highlights the competitive balance of Cincinnati’s construction market. Strong institutional demand, health care expansion, industrial development and public-sector investment all contributed to elevated billings in 2024.
As construction activity continues into 2026, these top-ranked contractors are expected to remain central to the region’s growth, shaping skylines, infrastructure and economic development across the Greater Cincinnati area.
