COLUMBIA — The City of Columbia has announced a revised completion date for phase three of construction at the Route K and Old Plank Road roundabout.

According to a news release issued Monday by the Columbia Public Works Department, the project is now expected to be finished by 5 p.m. on Dec. 31. The updated timeline comes after a previous estimate projected completion by Dec. 26.
This marks another delay for the project, which was originally scheduled to be completed on Dec. 5, based on earlier reports from KOMU 8.
City officials said pavement connecting nearby streets to the roundabout has already been poured. However, crews need additional curing time before reopening Route K to through traffic to ensure the roadway meets safety and durability standards.
Drivers are advised to continue following posted detours, observe warning signs and use caution while traveling through the construction zone until work is completed.

The City of Columbia is pushing back the anticipated completion date for phase three of construction on the Route K and Old Plank Road roundabout, citing the need for additional pavement curing time.
In a Monday update from the Columbia Public Works Department, officials said the project is now expected to conclude by 5 p.m. on Dec. 31. The previous estimate had placed completion on Dec. 26, while the original target date earlier this month was Dec. 5.
The ongoing delays have drawn attention from local business owners and commuters, particularly along Route K, where reduced traffic flow has affected businesses that depend on pass-by customers.
City officials confirmed that pavement connecting surrounding streets to the roundabout has been poured. However, reopening the roadway requires extra time for the concrete to cure properly, a step officials say is necessary to ensure long-term roadway performance and driver safety.
Until construction is fully complete, motorists are encouraged to obey detour routes, watch for signage and remain cautious while traveling near the work zone.
Public Works officials said updates will continue to be shared as the project approaches its revised completion date.
