Comcast has officially begun construction of a next-generation high-speed internet network across seven Indiana counties, marking a significant step in expanding broadband access to underserved rural communities. The project will reach Fayette, Rush, Delaware, Boone, Shelby, Morgan, and Miami counties, bringing connectivity to more than 10,000 homes and businesses.
Once complete, these communities will have access to Comcast’s full suite of Xfinity and Comcast Business offerings, including fast Internet speeds, streaming and television packages, built-in cybersecurity, and low-cost Internet plans.

The project is part of a multi-million-dollar joint investment through Indiana’s Next Level Connections Broadband Grant Program, a state-led initiative that has invested $350 million to improve broadband availability statewide.
"We are working to ensure that every Hoosier has access to high-speed, reliable, affordable broadband," said Steve Cox, Indiana’s Chief Broadband Officer. "Connecting every corner of our state will provide economic mobility and connect residents and businesses to a better quality of life. With this partnership, Comcast is helping us make that happen."
Comcast has already invested heavily in Indiana, pouring nearly $600 million into its network infrastructure in the state over the past three years. Nationally, the company has committed more than $80 billion over the past decade to upgrade its fiber-rich infrastructure.
"Comcast is proud to continue its commitment to rural Hoosiers by kicking off construction work and ensuring even more homes have access to faster and more reliable Internet," said Joni Hart, vice president of Government Affairs for Comcast Indiana. "Through our network that delivers 99.9% reliability, residents can participate in services like e-learning, utilize healthcare online, and rely on broadband access in their communities."
Comcast’s existing infrastructure in Indiana already spans more than 49,000 miles of fiber-optic lines, supporting internet speeds that exceed one gigabit for residential and business users. The company also maintains a robust network of 65,500 public WiFi hotspots across Indiana and more than 23 million nationwide.
This buildout is part of a larger effort to bridge the digital divide by bringing high-speed connectivity to both rural communities and underserved urban areas. Beyond just access, Comcast’s investment supports economic development, remote learning, telemedicine, and business growth in areas that have historically lagged in broadband availability.
The rollout is expected to bring a meaningful impact not only in terms of infrastructure but also in terms of job creation and local economic development, as contractors and local crews are tapped for network deployment and installation.
As part of its broader digital equity efforts, Comcast will also continue offering its Internet Essentials program, providing affordable connectivity options to low-income households.
With this latest construction phase now underway, Indiana continues to move closer to its goal of universal broadband access, ensuring no Hoosier is left behind in the digital age.
