Starting Monday, June 9, the eastbound lanes of the Highway 24 Frontage Road—from northbound 8th Street to the Highway 24 intersections—will be closed to traffic. Drivers will need to detour by making a right turn from 8th Street onto Highway 24.

In addition, the sidewalk on the east side of the 8th Street bridge, as well as the Midland Trail bridge over Fountain Creek, will close on June 9. Pedestrians and trail users are advised to use the west side of 8th Street to safely navigate around the construction zone.

These closures are crucial to prepare the site and stage equipment for the removal of the Midland Trail bridge, which is scheduled for the night of June 12.

Once the trail bridge is removed, construction crews will begin widening the east side of the 8th Street bridge. This expansion will include adding a new northbound lane across the bridge and replacing the Midland Trail bridge with a multi-use path attached to the bridge. This segment of work is expected to continue through early 2026.

During construction, the bridge will stay open for both directions of traffic, although drivers should anticipate occasional lane shifts and temporary lane closures. Access to local businesses along 8th Street will remain open and clearly marked to minimize disruption.
