Cullman Sees Five Million-Dollar+ Construction Projects, Including New Hotel

Caroline Raffetto

CULLMAN, Ala. — Five of the seven new million-dollar-plus construction permits issued in Alabama last week are located in Cullman, underscoring the city’s growing development momentum.

Among the largest projects is a new Towneplace Suites by Marriott hotel, which Baron Hospitality of Birmingham is developing. The hotel will feature 90 guest rooms and is expected to open by May 2026. Lloyd’s Construction & Consulting LLC serves as the lead contractor, with a total project cost of $14 million.

“This new hotel is a significant addition to Cullman’s hospitality and economic landscape,” said a spokesperson for Baron Hospitality. “We’re excited to bring more accommodation options to the area and support both local tourism and business travel.”

Other High-Value Permits in Cullman

In addition to the hotel, four other Cullman projects topped $1 million, ranging from commercial developments to banking facilities:

  • 64 Walnut Street NW – Cliff Harris Inc for Rusken: $7.23M
  • 1740 2nd Ave SW Suite A – Stewart/Perry Company Inc for Drinkard Development: $1.2M
  • 1672 2nd Ave SW – Mccon Building Corporation for Jeff Liegel: $2.59M
  • 300 4th Ave SW – Sykes Weaver LLC for Amfirst Bank and Credit Union: $2.88M

Across Alabama, additional million-dollar permits include projects in Fultondale and Tuscaloosa, with commercial and institutional developments leading the way.

“These new permits highlight a strong week for construction activity in the region,” noted Report Construction LLC, which tracks building permits across the state. “Cullman is emerging as a hotspot for high-value projects, and these developments reflect ongoing investment in commercial, hospitality, and community infrastructure.”

The surge in Cullman construction projects signals continued growth and investment in the city, with developers focusing on projects that support both local businesses and the community at large.

The Towneplace Suites project, in particular, demonstrates the city’s appeal to national hotel brands and its readiness to accommodate increased business and leisure travel.

As these projects move forward, residents can expect visible changes to the cityscape, with construction crews actively preparing sites, leveling land, and beginning foundational work over the coming months.
