Dentons Adds Alana Sliwinski to Boost Real Estate, Construction Practice

Dentons has deepened its bench of legal talent in the real estate and construction sector by welcoming Alana T. Sliwinski as a partner in its Real Estate practice. Sliwinski, who will be based in Dentons’ New York office, brings over a decade of experience advising real estate owners and developers on a broad range of high-profile projects across the United States.
Her practice focuses on navigating the full spectrum of development and construction work, including mixed-use residential towers, commercial and office developments, hotel projects, and major infrastructure efforts. Sliwinski has structured and negotiated sophisticated design and construction agreements such as EPC, design-build, construction management, and architect/engineer contracts. Her work has supported developments with a collective value exceeding $10 billion.

Sliwinski’s strength lies in her ability to blend transactional expertise with a deep understanding of construction risk management and dispute resolution. Her legal counsel consistently delivers results-oriented solutions that enable clients to meet pressing development timelines without compromising on long-term risk exposure.
“Clients today face increasing pressure to deliver complex projects on time and on budget, while navigating a shifting legal and regulatory landscape,” said Linda White, chair of Dentons’ US Real Estate practice. “Alana’s unique combination of transactional acumen, litigation insight and in-house experience makes her an invaluable partner to clients. She understands what it takes to get a deal done while protecting long-term project value, and we are thrilled to welcome her to the team.”
Sliwinski’s legal career spans both law firm and in-house roles. Most notably, she served as director of legal for Canopy Buildings, a unit of Sidewalk Labs (now part of Google). There, she helped shape legal and operational frameworks for a cutting-edge offsite construction startup focused on modular and mass timber building systems. In that role, she managed a wide range of responsibilities including corporate governance, insurance, product strategy, and commercial contracts.
Her time at Canopy provided her with an insider’s view of how legal counsel intersects with innovative building technologies and construction methods—a perspective that now informs her approach to client representation. Sliwinski continues to serve as external general counsel to several clients in the construction and proptech spaces, advising them through growth phases, regulatory challenges, and contract negotiations.
With the construction industry increasingly leaning into technological innovation and sustainable building practices, Dentons’ move to add Sliwinski reflects the firm’s strategic focus on offering forward-looking legal guidance to clients facing the complexities of modern development.
“Alana’s appointment marks a significant enhancement to our real estate capabilities in New York and nationwide,” added White.
Dentons, one of the world’s largest law firms, continues to grow its U.S. practice with experienced practitioners who understand the evolving challenges of real estate development, construction law, and infrastructure finance.
