
Growing demand for general aviation facilities is driving infrastructure upgrades at regional airports, with Richard Arthur Field Airport in Fayette, Alabama, completing an expansion designed to increase aircraft capacity and support future development.
The project, engineered by Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC), adds new aircraft storage and airside infrastructure while improving operational efficiency at the municipal airport.
The completed project includes three new aircraft hangars, anchored by a new 4,860-square-foot multi-box hangar that expands available storage for aircraft. A 10,320-square-foot apron was also constructed to improve aircraft maneuvering and provide room for future airport growth.
The expansion was undertaken in response to increased airport activity and rising demand for additional hangar space.
Beyond the new aviation facilities, the construction program included grading, paving, pavement striping, drainage improvements, and repairs to a culvert beneath the runway. The upgrades are intended to improve airport operations while supporting the long-term reliability of the airfield.
Goodwyn Mills Cawood delivered aviation engineering services for the project and also provided geotechnical engineering and construction inspection during project delivery.
The expansion received financial support through the Federal Aviation Administration's Airport Improvement Program and Airport Infrastructure Grants.
