Google Fiber Begins Tempe Buildout

TEMPE, Ariz. — June 26, 2025 — Google Fiber has officially begun construction on its high-speed internet network in Tempe, marking the tech giant’s latest investment in Arizona’s rapidly growing digital infrastructure.

According to city officials, crews are currently installing nearly 85,000 linear feet of fiber throughout Tempe’s Warner Ranch Neighborhood. The project, which is being closely coordinated with local road repaving efforts, is designed to maximize efficiency and minimize impact on residents.

Google has pledged it will “work closely with the city and county to minimize disruption to residents,” a message aimed at reassuring homeowners as construction ramps up across residential streets.

The new service rollout will offer multi-gigabit residential internet plans starting at $70 per month and scaling up to $150 per month for faster tiers. For businesses, Google Fiber will provide either two-gigabit service at $250/month or one-gigabit service at $100/month, delivering competitive pricing in a market that continues to see increasing demand for faster, more reliable broadband.

“Google Fiber wants to be in Arizona like a lot of businesses want to be in Arizona,” said Will Novak, Google Fiber’s government and community affairs manager.

Tempe is the latest city to join Google Fiber’s national expansion, which includes a growing presence across the Phoenix metropolitan area. With increasing pressure to bridge digital divides, especially in education and business sectors, Tempe city leaders have welcomed the arrival of new broadband infrastructure.

The Warner Ranch installation is part of a phased approach, with other neighborhoods expected to be added to the buildout schedule later this year. Google Fiber has been ramping up construction across multiple U.S. markets, offering gigabit and multi-gigabit services that support everything from remote work and telehealth to cloud gaming and 4K streaming.

City spokespersons emphasized the importance of broadband as a utility in today’s economy, citing the project as a step forward in meeting long-term digital equity goals.

Residents in the affected neighborhoods will receive advance notices of construction and temporary traffic impacts. The city and Google have jointly committed to maintaining open lines of communication through public updates, signage, and neighborhood outreach.

With Arizona emerging as a magnet for tech companies, from semiconductor giants to cloud service providers, the Google Fiber expansion underscores the state’s growing reputation as a digital infrastructure hub.

Additional Background:
Google Fiber’s presence in Arizona is part of its broader strategy to re-enter and expand in markets where demand is high and municipal cooperation allows for streamlined permitting. In recent years, Tempe has prioritized infrastructure projects that can serve as catalysts for economic development and technological resilience, especially in light of growing population and business activity.

As the network buildout continues, city officials encourage residents to stay informed through the City of Tempe’s construction portal or Google Fiber’s local project updates page.
