An additional state investment has completed the financing package for the Pendragon Theatre redevelopment in Saranac Lake, reinforcing New York's strategy of using cultural infrastructure projects to support downtown revitalization and regional economic development.
Gov. Kathy Hochul announced an additional $750,000 in state funding for Pendragon Theatre, closing the final financing gap for the organization's new permanent facility at 56 Woodruff Street.
The project involved redeveloping a vacant grocery store into a performing arts venue designed to support year-round programming, community events and expanded public access to live theater.
The redevelopment represents an investment of more than $11 million, with New York State contributing more than $6.2 million through multiple grant programs and economic development initiatives.
Funding for the project was assembled through several state programs, including the Downtown Revitalization Initiative, Restore NY, Market NY, Smart Growth grants and support from the New York State Council on the Arts.
The completed facility is intended to strengthen Saranac Lake's downtown while supporting tourism, cultural programming and broader economic activity throughout the Adirondack region.
For developers, contractors and community stakeholders, the Pendragon Theatre project illustrates how layered public funding can enable adaptive reuse developments that preserve existing properties while supporting downtown revitalization. The project also highlights the continued role of state economic development programs in financing community and cultural infrastructure.
