Bridge replacement activity continues across western transportation markets as agencies address aging infrastructure, safety upgrades and long-term traffic capacity needs. A Granite-led joint venture has been selected to provide preconstruction services for the Keystone Avenue Bridge Replacement Project in Reno, Nevada.
Granite Construction announced that Keystone Bridge Partners, its joint venture with Condon-Johnson & Associates, was selected by the Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County to deliver preconstruction services under a Construction Manager at Risk delivery model.
The Keystone Avenue Bridge, originally constructed in 1966, serves as a major north-south route across the Truckee River in Reno. The replacement program is intended to address structural deficiencies, improve roadway safety and accommodate growing traffic demand within the corridor.
Planned work includes demolition of the existing bridge and construction of a new multi-span steel beam girder structure.
Additional project scope includes reconstruction of roadway approaches along Keystone Avenue, retaining wall installation, drainage improvements and utility relocation work.
The transportation program will also incorporate a new multi-use path connection to Vine Street and related roadway upgrades near the bridge corridor.
According to project information released by Granite, preconstruction activities are scheduled from the second quarter of 2026 through the first quarter of 2028. Major construction work is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2028 and continue through the third quarter of 2029.
The anticipated value of the future construction phase is estimated between $50 million and $60 million.
Transportation agencies throughout the United States continue to prioritize bridge replacement and rehabilitation projects tied to aging infrastructure networks and long-term resiliency planning.
CMAR and other alternative delivery methods remain common on complex bridge projects where early contractor involvement can support constructability reviews, cost management and phased traffic coordination.
For contractors, material suppliers and infrastructure owners, the Keystone Avenue Bridge program reflects sustained investment in regional transportation infrastructure and continued demand for heavy civil construction expertise in western U.S. markets.
