Highlights

  • MCAA has highlighted a collection of safety and health resources for newly hired mechanical industry workers.
  • Materials address hazard recognition, personal protective equipment, fall protection, emergency procedures and other jobsite risks.
  • Separate safety manuals cover mechanical construction, fabrication shops and service technicians.
  • MCAA provides customizable model safety programs for construction and service contractors.
  • The association maintains more than 700 safety, health and mental health resources.

New employees entering mechanical construction and service operations require safety training that addresses the hazards specific to their work environments. The Mechanical Contractors Association of America has expanded attention on its safety resource library, providing contractors with training materials and customizable programs for onboarding workers and strengthening workplace safety practices.

New Worker Safety Training Materials

MCAA's New Worker Safety Orientation introduces workers to core safety practices, including pre-task planning, personal protective equipment, fall protection, hazard communication, housekeeping and emergency response.

The association also provides separate safety manuals for mechanical construction workers, fabrication shop employees and mechanical service technicians. The materials cover job-specific hazards and safety practices, with topics ranging from welding and bloodborne pathogens to refrigerants, CPR and electrical safety requirements under NFPA 70E.

The service technician manual covers 84 safety and health subjects, while the fabrication shop manual addresses 61 topics.

Contractor Safety Programs

Beyond worker orientation and reference materials, MCAA offers model safety programs that contractors can adapt to their own operations.

The Model Safety Program for Mechanical Construction provides policies and safe-work practices covering 45 industry-specific topics. A separate Model Safety Program for Mechanical Service addresses 33 subjects relevant to service operations.

These resources give contractors a framework for developing consistent safety procedures across different work environments while allowing companies to tailor policies to their operations.

Why It Matters

Safety training is a key component of onboarding new workers, particularly in mechanical construction where employees may encounter equipment, fall, electrical, chemical and other jobsite hazards.

For mechanical contractors, having role-specific manuals and customizable safety programs can help standardize training across construction sites, fabrication facilities and service operations. MCAA's broader resource library includes more than 700 safety, health and mental health resources, giving contractors additional materials to support workforce safety programs.
