HIAWATHA, Iowa — Commuters in Hiawatha should prepare for a temporary traffic disruption as the Iowa Department of Transportation plans to close a key interstate exit ramp for construction work.
According to the DOT’s Manchester construction office, the northbound I-380 exit ramp to Boyson Road will be closed beginning Sunday, June 15. The closure is necessary to allow crews to perform construction safely and efficiently.

During the closure, motorists will be detoured to the Tower Terrace Road exit, where they can reenter the highway on southbound I-380 and then take the exit to Boyson Road. The detour is expected to add time to the daily commute, and drivers are encouraged to plan accordingly.
This ramp closure is part of a broader set of improvements along the I-380 corridor aimed at enhancing traffic flow and safety in the area.
There is some good news for travelers: the southbound entrance ramp to I-380 at Boyson Road, which has been closed since April, is scheduled to reopen on the evening of Monday, June 16.
Iowa DOT wants to remind drivers to be cautious of these upcoming changes.
The agency is urging motorists to watch for signage, follow detour routes, and reduce speed in construction zones to ensure the safety of workers and all road users.
This project is part of the Iowa DOT’s long-term infrastructure upgrade plans for Linn County, focusing on ramp efficiency, resurfacing, and improved merging conditions.
Additional updates on the project schedule and other traffic impacts can be found on the Iowa DOT’s website or through local traffic alert systems.
