Travelers on Interstate 84 in Caldwell should plan for overnight closures this week as part of ongoing construction on the I-84 corridor. The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) announced that westbound I-84 between Franklin Road and Centennial Way will be fully closed for two nights to allow crews to install new overhead signs, a key component of the corridor improvement project scheduled for completion in 2027.
On Wednesday, Sept. 25, the westbound lanes between Franklin Road and 10th Avenue interchanges will be shut down from midnight to 5 a.m. Motorists will need to exit at Exit 29 (Franklin Road westbound off-ramp), travel along Blaine Street westbound, and then re-enter the interstate via the 10th Avenue westbound on-ramp.
“Drivers should slow down, stay alert, and follow posted detour signs during the closure,” ITD advised.
On Thursday, Sept. 26, the closure shifts slightly west, affecting westbound I-84 from 10th Avenue to Centennial Way. Motorists will be detoured via Exit 28 (10th Avenue off-ramp), continue on Illinois Avenue to Madison Street, and then rejoin the interstate at Centennial Way on-ramp.
These short-term closures are part of a larger I-84 corridor improvement initiative, which aims to enhance safety, improve traffic flow, and update signage throughout Caldwell and surrounding areas. ITD emphasizes that planning ahead and using alternate routes during overnight hours can help minimize delays and keep travelers safe.
Residents and regular commuters are encouraged to check ITD’s website or social media channels for real-time updates and potential changes to the detour routes.
