Officials confirmed that construction will begin next week and is expected to take several weeks to complete. Once finished, the site will serve as a central gathering space for fans, offering a large-scale viewing and entertainment area during the tournament.

The FanFest development is one of the most visible construction initiatives tied to the event, transforming a prominent civic landmark into a hub for international visitors and local residents alike.

Citywide Preparations Gain Visibility

Across Kansas City, signs of World Cup readiness are becoming increasingly visible. From branded installations at Union Station to themed displays at the airport, both residents and visitors are noticing the city’s efforts to prepare for the global event.

Local resident Carol Linbille said the widespread signage has heightened excitement throughout the community.

“We’re just very excited to have this,” Linbille said. “I love it, I love it.”

Travelers arriving in the city have also observed the growing presence of World Cup branding. Visitors noted that signage appears immediately upon arrival, reinforcing the city’s role as a host destination.

“Yeah, non-stop,” said traveler Bram Sable-Smith. “There are all kinds of World Cup gear in the Rally House here in Union Station. I just saw the streetcar come through. And it’s ready for the World Cup.”

Additional Enhancements Planned Across the City

Event organizers say the FanFest construction is just one component of a broader rollout of infrastructure and branding enhancements. Additional installations are scheduled in the coming weeks to further transform the city ahead of the tournament.

Planned upgrades include expanded World Cup branding on streetcars, additional banners around Union Station and enhancements to transit stops. These improvements are expected to be completed in phases leading up to early June.

Some visitors noted that Kansas City appears to be further along in its preparations compared to other host cities. Traveler Donnava Shofner, arriving from Dallas, observed a noticeable difference in visibility.

“Not as much,” Shofner said. “You kind of see it, but not, you know, like here. Maybe it’s in the beginning stages, but it’s not as much as you would think. Yeah. Especially for a big city.”

As construction progresses and branding expands, Kansas City continues to position itself as a key destination for the World Cup, leveraging infrastructure upgrades and public engagement efforts to enhance the overall visitor experience.
