Keroe Street Construction Promises Safer Roads in Eastleigh

Construction is officially underway on Keroe Street in California, Eastleigh, bringing hope to residents after years of enduring a deteriorated and often impassable road. The project, which began with sewage installation and clearing stagnant water and mud, marks a major step toward improved road safety and accessibility in the area.
The road, which connects Marimbi Street to General Wariungi Street, is a vital thoroughfare lined with hospitals, schools, businesses, and the California Police Station. Years of neglect have made the route especially hazardous during rainy seasons, when flooding and deep mud rendered it nearly unusable.

However, the situation is beginning to turn around. Ibrahim Hamza, the contractor leading the project, told The Eastleigh Voice that while they encountered initial obstacles due to the road’s prolonged neglect, progress has been steady. “In the next three to four weeks, we shall have completed this road. It will be in good shape,” he said.
Work crews began by addressing some of the road’s worst issues—drainage and poor infrastructure. The team is excavating the street to depths of up to one meter to correct long-standing drainage failures that led to repeated flooding and road degradation.
Project surveyor Walter Akoko noted that the road is already partially usable as construction continues. “It is passable for now, and we hope that by the end of it all, it will improve everything here. It will even improve the security around this area because we have a police station around here,” he said.
The improved drainage, coupled with the cleanup of stagnant water and accumulated mud, is expected to provide not just smoother access but also heightened safety in a neighborhood where movement has long been hindered.
Another notable aspect of the project is its inclusivity. Women have been actively involved in the construction work, underscoring the community-oriented approach of the initiative and providing much-needed employment opportunities.
As work moves forward, residents and local businesses are hopeful that Keroe Street will soon transform from a neglected hazard into a reliable and secure connection for the community.
