Construction is underway on the Taylor County Public Library’s major building expansion project, and while the facility remains closed to the public, staff members have temporarily set up operations right outside — in the parking lot.

The library began offering both curbside pickup and walk-up services last week to ensure patrons can continue accessing essential resources throughout the construction period. These services are available during the library’s regular operating hours and include book and DVD checkout — limited to 10 items per library card — as well as copies, faxing, printing, and notary services.
Residents can continue to rely on the library even though the building itself is off-limits. Library hours are currently:
Patrons will enter through the parking lot located directly behind the library at 1316 E. Broadway St., which can be accessed from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
To take advantage of curbside pickup or front desk services, visitors can call the library staff at 270-465-2562 or email requests@tcplibrary.org. A convenient request form is also available online at tcplibrary.org/form/curbside-pick-up-request.

The library encourages residents to browse its online catalog at tcpl.booksys.net/opac/taylor/. However, some titles may appear unavailable at times due to severely limited shelving during the temporary arrangement.
To give the community more hands-on access to new and popular reading material, the team has also launched a pop-up browsing experience. Every Monday, weather permitting, carts stocked with books — including the latest releases — are wheeled directly into the parking lot between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., allowing patrons to browse in person again.
In addition, the library has activated its new book drop located beside the entrance of the expansion area. The former book drop is now permanently closed, as noted in recent library updates.
While the temporary setback does disrupt day-to-day operations, the expansion represents a long-planned effort to upgrade library services, add technology, and create more space for events and learning.
Library staff members say they’re committed to staying connected with residents while construction continues — keeping books and services flowing until the upgraded facility is ready to reopen.
More construction updates and service announcements will be posted online and via the library’s social media channels.
