Construction has begun on the newest hotel development in Belmont: a four-story, 107-room Residence Inn by Marriott. The property is being built on land next to the new CaroMont Health hospital, which opened earlier this year as a major investment in regional healthcare. The extended-stay hotel development highlights Belmont’s rising appeal to healthcare travelers, business professionals, and expanding local industries.

The $15 million project is a collaboration between Rock Hill, South Carolina-based Warren Norman, Belmont Land and Investment, and Belmont Abbey. Once completed, the hotel will welcome guests in spring 2027, offering long-term accommodations, kitchen-equipped suites, business amenities, and flexible guest spaces designed for extended stays.
Myrtle Beach-based Strand Hospitality Services will operate the new hotel. The company manages more than two dozen properties across North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and Ohio, bringing regional expertise to a rapidly developing market. Strand president John Pharr, whose family founded Pharr Yarns, emphasized the continued growth of Belmont and its partnerships in his announcement. “This project represents continued confidence in Belmont’s growth and the strength of our community partnerships,” said Pharr in a release.
Belmont Land and Investment, the real estate arm of the former textile manufacturer Pharr, continues to repurpose land assets following the company’s exit from textiles in 2020. Meanwhile, Belmont Abbey—led by the Southern Benedictine Society of monks—remains a prominent landholder and anchor institution in the city, overseeing Belmont Abbey College and guiding local economic development through strategic land stewardship.
Together with private developers, these partnerships are shaping a modern economic ecosystem in Belmont that blends education, healthcare, and hospitality. The Residence Inn project marks the latest milestone in Belmont’s shift from a textile town to a diversified hub for innovators, students, and traveling professionals.

The hotel will be situated along the CaroMont Parkway corridor, directly across from the newly opened $260 million, 54-bed CaroMont Health hospital, a facility expected to attract healthcare workers, traveling physicians, visiting family members, and medical trainees. As medical facilities draw more visitors, demand for extended-stay accommodations grows—making the Marriott brand a strategic fit.
Residence Inn is Marriott’s leading extended-stay brand, catering to travelers needing multi-night and multi-week stays, a growing trend among medical professionals completing rotations and contract assignments.
General contracting will be handled by Charlotte-based Myers & Chapman, a firm known for commercial development projects across the region. The building’s design is by Ragona Architecture and Design (RAD), also based in Charlotte, specializing in hospitality-focused architecture that blends modern design with functionality for long-term guests.
As work unfolds, the project is expected to generate construction activity and future hospitality employment opportunities within Gaston County. With more businesses, medical facilities, and higher-education connections linking to Belmont, the hotel represents a long-term investment in the city’s growing demand for travel accommodations.
