Developing skilled field leadership remains a key challenge for construction contractors as companies work to strengthen project execution and workforce capabilities. The Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA) has opened registration for its Foundations of Field Leadership (FFL) online program, designed to prepare new and emerging mechanical construction leaders.
The eight-week course provides practical training for foremen and future field supervisors through weekly online sessions beginning Sept. 24, 2026.
The FFL program is designed around the operational needs of mechanical contractors and focuses on essential skills required to manage crews and construction activities effectively.
Topics include project planning, leadership practices, documentation requirements, safety responsibilities and strategies for improving field performance.
The program is taught by senior field leaders with extensive experience managing mechanical construction projects. Course content was developed based on feedback from 42 mechanical field leaders representing MCAA member companies across the country.
Each session combines instruction, real-world examples, interactive discussions, quizzes and short video assignments to help participants apply lessons directly to their work.
MCAA reported that more than 700 students have graduated from previous FFL courses, reflecting continued demand for structured field leadership development.
The program is available to employees of MCAA member companies, with registration offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
Strong field leadership directly affects jobsite safety, productivity and project coordination. For mechanical contractors and construction owners, workforce development programs that improve supervisory skills can help strengthen project delivery and support the next generation of construction leaders.
