Developing experienced foremen and field supervisors remains important for mechanical contractors managing project execution, crew coordination and jobsite safety. The Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA) has opened enrollment for its next Foundations of Field Leadership (FFL) program, with classes scheduled to begin Jan. 7, 2027.
The eight-week online course is designed for new and aspiring field leaders from MCAA member companies. Participants will attend one 90-minute session each week, combining instruction from experienced mechanical construction leaders with practical guidance on managing crews and executing work.
The curriculum addresses several responsibilities associated with mechanical construction field leadership, including work planning, leadership, documentation and safety.
Senior field leaders with experience managing mechanical projects will deliver the sessions. The course content draws on input from 42 field leaders representing MCAA member companies across the United States.
Instruction includes practical lessons, industry experience and strategies for handling common field management responsibilities. The program also incorporates real-time student interaction, quizzes and short video assignments.
MCAA reports that more than 700 participants have completed previous FFL courses. The association is accepting registrations for the upcoming session, with enrollment available to member companies without a stated limit on the number of participants.
Registration will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis.
Why It Matters
Field supervisors play a direct role in coordinating labor, maintaining safety standards, documenting work and meeting project requirements. Structured leadership training gives mechanical contractors a way to prepare emerging foremen for these responsibilities and strengthen field management capabilities as employees move into supervisory positions.
