Community engagement remains an important part of many construction companies' corporate responsibility programs, complementing their work on infrastructure and building projects. Mortenson recently supported the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games through employee volunteer efforts and event sponsorship in Minneapolis.
Mortenson participated as a sponsor of the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games, with employees contributing more than 380 volunteer hours throughout the event.
Before competitions began, team members helped prepare facilities by assembling golf bags and constructing pickleball courts at the National Sports Center. During the games, volunteers welcomed athletes, served meals, assisted with event operations, and supported Healthy Athletes screening activities.
The national event brought together 52 Special Olympics delegations, approximately 2,800 athletes, 1,500 coaches, and 13,000 volunteers.
Volunteer efforts also supported the Healthy Athletes program, which provided medical screenings and health resources to participants. The initiative delivered nearly 10,000 health screenings and distributed eyeglasses, hearing aids, and athletic footwear to athletes during the games.
Mortenson's participation extended from pre-event preparations through the closing ceremonies, supporting logistics and athlete experiences throughout the competition.
Construction firms increasingly incorporate community engagement into their broader business strategies alongside project delivery and workforce initiatives. For industry stakeholders, Mortenson's involvement highlights how employee volunteer programs can strengthen community partnerships while supporting regional events that promote accessibility and inclusion.
