SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Missouri State University officially unveiled its newest facility on Monday, marking a significant milestone for the university’s construction and technology programs.

The Construction Education Success Center, an addition to Kemper Hall, spans 10,000 square feet and is designed to educate a growing number of construction majors while addressing industry workforce needs.

The center features a 30-foot-high training lab, where students gain hands-on experience with full-scale construction activities, including aerial lift training and crane safety. Additional amenities include a construction management lab, study lounge, and rooftop terrace, providing both practical learning spaces and collaborative areas for students.

“This new building is going to change the game in terms of recruiting and attracting, and retaining top talent,” said Richard Gebken, program director for MSU’s Technology and Construction Management department. “It allows us to provide opportunities to do these hands-on things, and this will be one of the premier construction education spaces in the country.”

The project, costing $9.6 million, was funded through the MoExcels Workforce Initiative and private donations, reflecting a combined effort to invest in workforce development and higher education infrastructure.

Officials emphasized that the facility will equip students with real-world skills, preparing them for careers in construction, technology, and project management. The center also strengthens partnerships with local construction firms, offering students pathways to internships and employment opportunities.

“The hands-on experience and exposure to real-world construction scenarios will be invaluable for our students,” Gebken added. “This facility is about preparing them for the challenges of the industry and giving them a competitive edge in their careers.”

Missouri State University plans to continue expanding its programs in construction and technology, aiming to meet the growing demand for skilled workers in the region and nationwide.
