New Chick-fil-A in Cullman Highlights $1M+ Alabama Projects

Cullman Chick-fil-A Among 16 Major Construction Projects Approved Across Alabama
CULLMAN, Ala. – A new Chick-fil-A restaurant in Cullman is among 16 high-value construction projects approved last week across Alabama, each exceeding $1 million in value.
The $3.2 million Chick-fil-A will be located along Highway 157 on land previously owned by the Cullman First Church of the Nazarene. The restaurant will occupy the site of the church’s former sanctuary.

“Proceeds from the sale of the property will go toward adding a state-of-the-art building [in] the back section of the property where the church currently holds worship services,” according to the release.
Horizon Construction Co. is listed as the lead contractor on the permit. The firm has previously built several Chick-fil-A locations across the state, reflecting its ongoing role in the chain’s regional expansion.
Governor Kay Ivey’s economic team and local officials have regularly pointed to the role of consistent commercial development in boosting employment and infrastructure across smaller Alabama communities like Cullman.

The Chick-fil-A project is just one of many sizable builds underway statewide. According to data compiled by Report Construction LLC, the week of June 12 saw 16 new construction permits issued for projects surpassing $1 million. These span diverse sectors, including healthcare, civic buildings, residential developments, and commercial facilities.
Highlights include:
- Huntsville: A $3.28 million project by Blox Built LLC on Memorial Parkway SW
- Decatur: A $2.18 million public facility project for the City of Decatur
- Auburn: A nearly $2 million build on James Burt Parkway
- Tuscaloosa: Two projects totaling over $2.3 million, including work for the Baptist Association
These permits reflect growing investment in Alabama’s urban and suburban infrastructure. Commercial chains, institutional developers, and healthcare systems continue to expand their physical footprints in key growth areas such as the Birmingham metro, Huntsville, Auburn-Opelika, and Tuscaloosa.
The state’s relatively low cost of land, favorable permitting conditions, and population growth in secondary markets have made Alabama an attractive spot for development—especially for high-traffic businesses like Chick-fil-A.
