Stormont Vail Breaks Ground on New Emporia Health Clinic, Opening in 2028

Emporia, Kan. — Stormont Vail Health has officially kicked off construction for a new healthcare facility in Emporia, marking a major step in its long-term plan to expand regional access to quality medical care. Construction for the new clinic, located at 18th Avenue and Road G, is set to begin in spring 2026, with the facility expected to open its doors by 2028.

The healthcare provider held a small ceremony on August 4 to celebrate the start of the project, which has been in the planning stages for years. The new Emporia clinic will serve as a major investment in the health and well-being of the northeast Kansas community.

“It’s not just about a sign, it’s about honoring the journey that brought us here and the future we’re building in Emporia,” said Mary Martell, vice president of Strategy and Regional Development. “We’re proud to show our team and community what’s to come and are excited to bring expanded access to high-quality care and services to the area.”

Once completed, the new Stormont Vail Emporia Clinic will feature cutting-edge technology, including virtual health and telemedicine capabilities to better serve patients in both rural and urban settings. The design also includes modern consultation rooms, improved accessibility features, and patient-centered amenities such as comfortable waiting areas and family-friendly spaces.

“After three decades of serving Emporia, we are creating a permanent presence. We’re not just building a clinic – we’re building a healthier community one patient visit at a time,” said Dr. Scott Smiley. “This new campus is not only an investment in our patients, but an investment in our team and the future of Emporia as a whole.”

The project comes as part of Stormont Vail’s broader strategic initiative to strengthen healthcare infrastructure throughout northeast Kansas. By expanding their physical footprint and increasing the availability of services, the healthcare system aims to reduce care gaps and ensure continuity for patients in underserved regions.

According to Stormont Vail representatives, the Emporia clinic will also serve as a hub for new providers and medical staff, creating local employment opportunities and bolstering regional healthcare capacity.

In the months leading up to construction, further details about specific services, departments, and operational plans for the new facility will be released.

Community members and stakeholders can stay up to date on progress by following Stormont Vail Health’s website and social media channels.
