LYSANDER, N.Y. — Distributed Energy Infrastructure has completed construction on two community solar projects in central New York, marking a milestone for renewable energy development in the region.

The projects — the 2.9-megawatt West Genesee Solar Project and the 5-megawatt Cold Springs Solar Project — represent a combined 7.9 MW portfolio developed for Generate Capital. Both installations are expected to connect to the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) grid in the second quarter of 2026.
Construction continued through the winter of 2025–2026, despite heavy snowfall exceeding 100 inches in the Baldwinsville area. Crews maintained progress under challenging conditions, completing mechanical installation on schedule without safety incidents.
“Completing these projects through one of Central New York's harshest winters is a testament to what our team is capable of,” said Mike Wilkinson of Distributed Energy Infrastructure. “Our crews pushed through snowy, muddy, and freezing conditions to stay on schedule and build safely. We're proud to deliver two high-quality projects that will bring clean energy to this community.”
Both solar sites incorporate advanced technology designed to maximize energy output. The projects utilize single-axis tracking systems and bifacial solar modules, which can capture sunlight on both sides of the panel.
This configuration allows the systems to generate 30% to 40% more energy compared with traditional monofacial panels, improving efficiency and boosting overall power production. The installations are expected to supply clean electricity during periods of high demand, particularly in peak summer months.
The projects also contribute to New York’s broader clean energy transition by expanding distributed generation capacity and supporting grid resilience.
In addition to energy generation, the projects created jobs and economic activity in the region. Electrical work was performed by IBEW Local 43, while several local contractors contributed to construction and site development.
Firms involved included Schuler Haas/Ferguson Electric, DC Solar, Williams Fence and Excavation, and Greenside Services Inc., highlighting collaboration between national developers and local businesses.

Generate Capital provided financing through its infrastructure investment platform, supporting project development and long-term operation.
“West Genesee and Cold Springs are a great example of what's possible when the right team, financing, and community come together,” said Peggy Flannery, managing director of Generate Capital’s investment team. “We're proud to bring clean energy and local jobs to Lysander, and to support central New York's growing role in the clean energy transition.”
The completion of the projects marks Distributed Energy Infrastructure’s first installations in central New York and adds to its growing national portfolio. The company has delivered more than 500 projects across the United States, totaling over 1.2 gigawatts of solar capacity and 400 megawatt-hours of battery storage.
As demand for electricity continues to rise — driven in part by data centers and electrification trends — projects like these are expected to play a key role in expanding reliable, renewable power sources.
